Athlon Gets Bumped to 1.33 GHz By C. Rogers, 04.01
The reason AMD announced both 1.3 and 1.33 GHz chips is simple; one to cater to users with a 100 MHz DDR bus (13x100 MHz), and the other for users with the AMD760 & KT266 logic motherboards (10x133 MHz). Pricing at introduction shows a 1.33 GHz Athlon at $350 in volumes of 1000, and likewise $318 for the 1.3 GHz chip. In a noticeable margin, Thunderbird CPUs can outperform the Pentium 4 at lower clock speeds. While the P4 holds a huge victory in performance with Quake III Arena, the Athlon does better in the majority of business benchmarks and other popular games. |
