CeBit Show Displays Linux-based Web Tablets
By C. Rogers, 04.01

Hanover, Germany recently hosted the CeBit exponanza-- a popular European computer show that displays the latest trends in computer hardware and software. This year, CeBit became chauffeur to one of the neatest "Linux gadgets" in recent history.

This newest web-tablet, the Digital iPad, fell nothing short of Deutschland-quality expectations.

The iPad, which runs on the Linux 2.4 kernel, allows wireless connections (up to 100 meters from source) for basic Internet browsing and e-mail retrieval. There is also support for color display, and playback of MP3 and MPEG-4 formats.

This mini device runs on an integrated Intel 206 MHz CPU and 64 MB SDRAM. It also features support for both English and Korean languages, depending on customer preference.

Overall, the Digital iPad is a big victory for Linux; it is now ever-apparently trickling into the embedded device market.
