DirectX 8 Ready for Download
By C. Rogers, 12.00

For months now, the public has anxiously awaiting for DirectX 8. Now made available, the latest distribution should allow better gaming performance-- with a powerful set of tools for software rendering and playback. Some hardcore gamers may be interested to know DX8 will allow more frames-per-second (FPS) in their favorite video games, such as Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament.

Before upgrading to DirectX 8, it is recommended by us at CALROG.COM to do two things:

First, backup up your existing OS partition (preferably with imaging software such as Norton Ghost).

Secondly, upgrade to DirectX 8 "certified" drivers from the PC or graphics/audio card manufacturers. It is strongly recommended these drivers be downloaded before upgrading-- if incompatible drivers are used after installation of DirectX, there is no way uninstall DirectX (other than OS reinstallation).

If the drivers cause any issues with video/playback, restore your OS with your backup image. The latest drivers may not fully support DirectX 8 at the given time, however will most likely be addressed in the upcoming future.

If all goes well, gaming performance should slightly increase. However, best performance is contigent on having the latest, well-defined drivers for all PC hardware.
