GeForce2 Ultra; Super-Fast but Expensive

Since, the GeForce family of graphics cards have walloped the competition. For avid gamers, this card became a staple for games that could benefit from more frames-per-second. At first, 60 FPS, seemed like a realistic goal, however the newest variation, dubbed, GeForce 2 Ultra, blows way past this milestone in terms of performance.

Whereas an original GeForce2 card could easily handle 60 FPS at 640x480/65536, the new GeForce2 Ultra can play Quake III at a smooth 115 FPS! Even at an outlandish resolution/color depth of 1600x1200/32-bit, the GeForce was able to produce 45 FPS for playback. This in itself is a rather intensive feat, as 1600x1200 has not yet become an industry standard (nor will it anytime soon).

In order to get these high-end results however, it is recommended to have the latest Intel or Via motherboards, sporting the latest 1 GHz or higher CPUs.

One other bit of news-- the GeForce 2 Ultra cards aren't cheap. OEMs such as Elsa and Creative Labs selling these cards for $450-500, making one wonder whether the exorbitant cost is worth the performance. However, if money is not an issue in this case, then buy a card with a GeForce2 Ultra chip as soon as you can...

You'll definitely be the king of your neighborhood for quite some time.
