Linux Kernel Up to Version 2.4.17 By C. Rogers, 01.02 The Linux 2.4 kernel has shown to be a proven and stable solution for all Linux distributions. However, in the world of open-source programming, additions and bug fixes are implemented daily. This is what makes Linux what it is today, because of programmers whom donate their time to improve an already-established OS . The 2.4.17 kernel has some minor bug fixes, and features introduced. Some updates include support for the mobile i830 chipset, an improved kernel design to maintain larger cache sizes, better support for ISDN connections, and the ability to take advantage of Pentium 4 hyperthreading. An exhaustive list of fixes/modifications can be found directly through this link at Indiana University. For casual Linux users, most won't take advantage of kernel updates until newer distributions of Linux become available. However, for those whom are comfortable with updating their Linux system kernel (and willing to test the latest and greatest out there), this may be an update worth considering.
