TV-set Powered by Linux
By C. Rogers, 05.01

For those whom have paid attention to consumer appliances over the past 20 years, the first thing that would pop in mind with the company Sylvania would be televison sets.

During this summer however, this corporation will release an Internet-based TV, being powered by none other than Linux.

The 27" set will have an integrated browser, and Internet connections of analog 56K speeds-- all of which will be controlled by Linux.

Not only will the OS serve as an Internet device, but will allow built-in TV features, such as timed-recording, customizable program guide capabilities, and on-screen display.

External add-ons can include such amenities as RJ-11 and RJ-45 connections (for broadband connectivity), and USB support.

Sylvania, which still has not named this device, will sell the Linux-powered TV for a smooth $899-- not bad for an integrated device boasting a large viewable-image screen.
