MS Receives Denial-of-Service Attack
By C. Rogers, 02.01

It is not uncommon for large corporations to be hit by a well-schooled group of hackers. This case proved true as Microsoft recently had their server flooded with millions of hits (through only a few IP addresses).

In the latter half of January, these attacks occurred over a four day period. During this time, millions of Internet users who use sites such as MSN.com, Hotmail, and Microsoft.com received page errors when trying to access these sites.

Microsoft will need to improve their server, or perhaps add a few backup servers for recovery reasons. This incident alone costed Microsoft millions of dollars in revenue, and with their supposed savior in .NET and the X-Box in the future, they should avoid anymore bad press than they currently deal with.
