Napster to Charge This Summer
By C. Rogers, 02.01

BMG, the company whom bought stake in Napster late last year, is gearing up to introduce "paid-subscriptions" this coming summer. The idea of Napster becoming legit is gearing much closer, as revenue sharing will compensate the large recording labels. Thomas Middelhoff, the BMG CEO stated,
"I'm convinced we can introduce in June or July of this year a subscription model- with a real working digital rights management system."

A few individuals have spoken in favor of this proposed system, while most are angered by the fact MP3-swapping will be dealt with on a royalty-based architecture. These distraught users will naturally embrace Gnutella if BMG's grand scheme does kick into place.
