PC Slowdown a Sham

These days, the popular media are trying to show how PC sales are starting to reach a recession. In a a way, that following statement does have a share of validity. As compared to the PC-boom in the latter half of the 1990's, new PCs sales have dwindled quite a bit. It's perplexing that most of the news agencies are putting an early "death-mark" on the PC market-- when in the future this will ultimately prove otherwise.

The world of PCs sales is now at the point where boom-and-bust cycles are becoming commonplace. It's true; the majority of the American population do not need a CPU equipped with 1.0 GHz or faster CPUs and 60 GB hard drives. The lay crowd is very content with their 500 MHz machines, because all they do is surf the web and type documents.

Most of Americans whom own a PC are not computer literate; they just learn simple tasks by repetition.

So why do they need some large corporations telling them their system is currently obsolete? Well, at this point, the systems are not-- but within a year or two when newer Microsoft bloatware hits the market, people will purchase new PCs.

2002 may be the next boom in PC sales, as the speed becomes necessary for daily tasks. So for those in the press glooming the era of the PC, their arguments are unfounded, and irresponsible.
