SuSE Linux 7.2 Released to the Public
By C. Rogers, 07.01

Just recently released, a popular Linux distribution by SuSE has been upgraded with modest features.  SuSE Linux 7.2 is now available for download, however is targeted towards business customers solely.  The home user would be better off with RedHat Linux or Linux Mandrake.

For business users, some supported features are SMP (symmetrical multi-processing), journaling file systems (which logs system changes), large file support, and server functionality.

As with any Linux distribution, SuSE Linux 7.2 comes standard with Netscape Navigator, and Adobe Acrobat for Internet-related purposes. StarOffice by Sun is also a bundled office suite, offering near-identical features to Office 2000.

Interestingly enough, SuSE's largest market is in Europe, where this Linux distribution is in greater demand.  However, there is always hope in the North American economy for a ripe OS, with great features.  SuSE Linux 7.2 fits the bill for the business market, and would impress the masses if given consideration for corporate workstations.

There are multiple-language versions of SuSE Linux for distribution. The available languages are English, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Czech, Korean, Japanese and Hungarian.

While the press has perceived by some to ignore how Linux compliments IT infrastructure, distributions such as SuSE Linux have given hope to expanded market penetration.  If each release of Linux can build greater features and momentum, the dreams of many Linux advocates could become  reality, as more and more people give Linux a try.
