Whistler Officially Named Windows XP

Whistler, the code name for Microsoft's next OS platform, has been "in the works" as an early-beta product. This next coming kernel will update both consumer and professional flavours of the Windows platform. Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer and Co. have decided to call the next OS release Windows XP.

The moniker of "XP" is a two letter-acronym for "Experience". Microsoft believes this OS will work well with its up and coming .NET platform, which basically puts desirable productivity tools (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) up for a monthly free, as streamed from a MS server.

The OS will be optimised for .NET offerings, which is a controversial data-collection tool which Microsoft plans to become an  industry standard for Internet purchase transactions.

Windows XP will give consumer-version software the long-awaited NT kernel. For the past few years, Microsoft has been using Windows as a DOS shell in the form of Win98, Win98SE, and WinME. All these OSes essentially were time killers for Microsoft, and as a result, less time and effort was put into stability of the OS. Hopefully the NT kernel will reduce the amount of system crashes.

Business users will have little benefit going from Win2K to WinXP. Whistler will essentially be a Windows 2000 OS with .NET functionality built-in.

Windows XP will likely be released in 2002..
