WinXP: Product Activation Inevitable By C. Rogers, 05.01 (Edited 05.05) As some Windows users out there know, the next release of Windows is WinXP. MS wants to implement software activation into the OS-- this process makes it inevitably impossible to run the OS for a good period of time, unless downloading a hardware-defined activation key. The so-called reasoning for this is for software priacy to grind to a halt, as many users redistribute their Windows CD among friends. For the majority of law-abiding citizens, activation can be a punishment to users who constantly reinstall their OS, or change system hardware. When Windows is reinstalled, or a new graphics card is installed (for example), the activation key generated through Microsoft's original scope of your system will not work. Thus, some hard-working users will have to by another copy of Windows. |
